THE 23RD CHANNEL
The T.V. is my shepherd.
My spiritual growth shall want.
It maketh me to sit down and do nothing for his name's sake,
Because it requireth all my spare time.
It keepeth me from doing my duty as a Christian,
Because it presenteth me so many good shows that I must see.
It restoreth my knowledge of the things of the world,
And keepeth me from the study of God's word.
It leadeth me in paths of not attending the worship service,
And doing nothing in the Kingdom of God.
Yea, though I live to be a hundred,
I shall keep on viewing my T.V.
As long as it will work,
For it is my closest companion.
Its sound and its picture,
They comfort me.
It presenteth entertainment before me,
And keepeth me from doing important things with my family.
It fills my head with ideas,
Which differ from those set forth in the word of God.
Surely no good thing will come of my life,
Because my T.V. offereth me no good time to do the will of God;
Thus I will dwell in the place of the devil and his angels
Forever.

well, that is cool. . but is tinged with extremism. I really do agree with a lot of it! However. . though TV can be like a drug that anesthetizes people into apathy and inactivity and wastage of all kinds of their God-given physical, spiritual and emotional resources, it is also a window to the world, a teaching aid, a social justice alarm bell, a ministry, a mirror, a cry for help and so much more.

Thanks Kathryn. Good thoughts...This article, an unknown author, will make people think...TV can be a wastle of time, as you indicated, but also something that can be very helpful.
Let me share this true story with you. My mother, who has passed away (March 2003), used to watch the soap operas faithfully, but one day she dicided that her & Dad (2005) should spend that time praying for my brother's salvation. You know after 6 months my brother accepted the Lord. He says, "Mom & Dad prayed me into the Kingdom!"
When I read the 23rd channel, I thought of Mom & Dad!

Lately you know, i've been choosing to spend less time watching tv/dvds and more time with God. . it's so cool that you wrote this and you didn't know that i'd come to such a decision. . God was definitely speaking to me through this!
