GUSHUE WINS CURLING'S GOLD FOR CANADA

Brad Gushue used steady play and one spectacular end to win Canada's first-ever Olympic gold medal in men's curling.
The team received plenty of support from Newfoundlanders, including thousands of school kids who were given the afternoon off by Newfoundland and Labrador Education Minister Joan Burke.
Good Game Gushue & Team!!!

CANADA 0 RUSSIA 2

What happened to Team Canada?
Hockey is a team sport, and the Canadians did not play as a team.
Canada didn't play the physical, forechecking style it wanted for any sustained period and had trouble defending faster opponents on the Olympic-size ice.
A Canadian outfit that was stock-piled with NHL scorers – they didn't even have a true checking line – couldn't beat Finland's Antero Niittymaki, Switzerland's Martin Gerber and Russia's Evgeni Nabokov. The first two weren't even Number 1 goalies in the NHL before this season.
Another disappointment was Canada's undisciplined play. Too often, players took penalties that proved costly.
How about Canada's power play? It was horrific, going 0-for-8 against Russia and converting just five of 40 chances in the tournament.
Team Canada will have to regroup and be ready for 2010. At least we can look forward to than.

CANADA 3 CZECH REPUBLIC 2

The Canadians won in a nail-biter against the Czechs today. Thanks to the alert goaltending of Martin Brodeur they came out on top in this game. The shots on goal were 33- 16 in favor of the Czechs, Canada only recording 8 shots in the final 2 periods. The Canadians need to up their game quite a bit if they plan on going very far in the medal round.
Canada plays Russia in the Quarterfinals tomorrow. Most hockey fans and pundits will argue that Canada vs. Russia is not the heated hockey battle it once was.
However, we still love to reminisce about great games from the past, especially when the two hockey powers square off once more.
Canada, bring your "A" game and you should be ok.
GOLD CANADA GOLD!!!

A THOUGHT TO REFLECT ON
The Five Finger Prayer
1. Your thumb is nearest you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C. S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty."
2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.
3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the leaders of the government, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance.
4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact that this is our weakest finger; as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.
5. And lastly comes our little finger; the smallest finger of all which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "The least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.

MATTERS OF THE HEART

John 5: 13 - "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." This is exactly what Jesus Christ did for us...nearly 2,000 years ago. What a precious treasure He is for us today in this world of anger, hate, unrest, anxiousness, worry, and despair. He truly is the our true valentine.
