TREASURES

In my Devotional Time, I have been looking at David, 'A man after God's own heart'. While looking at the deep friendship David had with Jonathan, I came across the statement below. I trust it will speak to you as it did to me.

"Intimate friendships are like previous jewels, extremely valuable and hard to find.

If polished consistently with the soft cloths of commitment, encouragement, and honesty, they will glisten and shine the invaluable worth of love."

CARDINALS - WORLD SERIES WINNER IN 5 GAMES!

The Cardinals didn't make the playoffs until the last day of the regular season, but on Friday they celebrated their 10th World Series title.

Jeff Weaver threw eight stellar innings and St. Louis took advantage of two more miscues from the Tigers, as the Cardinals beat Detroit, 4-2, in Game 5 of the Fall Classic at Busch Stadium.

The Cardinals captured their first championship since beating Milwaukee in 1982, and they did it with a pitcher who wasn't on their roster to start the season.

Weaver didn't come to the Cardinals until a July 5 trade with the Angels. He lost Game 2 in Detroit Sunday, but came back with an incredible effort on Friday, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out nine and walking one batter.

NOVA Basic CRT Training

This week I took the NOVA Basic CRT Training at Kitchener. He was a very heavy course, but the worth the effort. It was good to meet a lot of new people with an interest in Emergency Services.

The course is outlined below.

NOVA’s 40-hour basic Crisis Response Training (CRT) explores crisis intervention theory and NOVA’s techniques for intervention with traumatized people.

The course emphasizes the fundamentals of crisis and trauma, how to adapt the NOVA’s basic techniques to individuals and groups, and how to create a community-based crisis response team. Topics include: immediate and long-term crisis reactions, diagramming or analyzing disasters and traumas, crisis and post-trauma interventions, NOVA’s Group Crisis Intervention (GCI) model, fundamentals of organizing crisis intervention teams, and special issues and populations.

The goals of the training are to understand the theory of crisis intervention, learn the NOVA model for individual and group crisis intervention, and learn theoretical information that is on the certification test, which must be passed to become a NOVA certified crisis responder. The training was lead by NOVA certified trainers.

Great Instructors!

Game 17 - Argos 9 Roughriders 13

A solid performance by the Saskatchewan defence made Andy Fantuz's first-half touchdown catch stand as the Roughriders edged the Toronto Argonauts 13-9 on Friday night.

THE WORLD SERIES!

Yadier Molina propelled the St. Louis Cardinals into the World Series with a dramatic ninth-inning homer, and Endy Chavez could only watch. Molina hit a two-run home run off Aaron Heilman in the top of the ninth inning as the Cardinals advanced to the World Series in thrilling fashion with a 3-1 victory over the New York Mets. They will meet the Detroit Tigers in Game One of the World Series on Saturday night.

Spiritual Leadership

It is understood that many of the same principles of leadership are used in Spiritual Leadership as general leadership. However, Spiritual Leadership has definite distinguishing qualities that need to be understood and practiced if Spiritual Leaders are to be successful. Consider the following:

1. The Spiritual Leader's task is to move people from where they are to where God wants them to be. They must lead their people so that the people have adjusted their lives to God's will.

2. Spiritual Leaders depend on the Holy Spirit.

3. Spiritual Leaders are accountable to God.

4. Spiritual Leaders can influence all people, not just God's people. Although Spiritual Leaders will generally move God's people to achieve the purposes of God, God can use them to exercise significant godly influence upon unbelievers.

5. Spiritual Leaders Work From God's Agenda, Not Their Own.

In conclusion, Spiritual Leaders seek God's will, then position their people to pursue God's Plan.

IS THE SALVATION ARMY LACKING SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP? WE ALL HAVE A PART TO PLAY!

Spiritual Leadership - The Ultimate Example

Jesus Christ is the ultimate example of spiritual leadership. When most people think of leadership, they picture a military officer giving out orders or an employer closely supervising his employees, making sure all the work gets done. These aspects can be part of leadership, but they are not the essence of spiritual leadership.

Spiritual leadership is the opposite of what most people think. Spiritual leadership is servant leadership. Jesus Christ Himself taught us, "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:28). Jesus was most definitely a leader. He was the leader of the twelve disciples and a much greater group of followers beyond them (Luke 10:1-17). Jesus did not lead by giving out orders or by supervising. Jesus led by being a servant and serving alongside of His followers.

Spiritual leadership involves humbling yourself and doing the tasks that no one else wants to do. In Jesus' time, the act of washing feet was to be assigned to the lowest of servants. However, at the last supper, Jesus humbled Himself and washed the disciples' feet. Afterwards he declared, "Do you understand what I have done for you? ... You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them" (John 13:12-17).

Spiritual Leadership - What does it take?

True spiritual leadership, with a spirit of humility and service, will cause people to follow you because they want to, not because they have to. Genuine humility and spiritual leadership is attractive. People want to follow a person who serves alongside them and sets an example for them. Perhaps the Apostle Paul sums it up best, "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1).

Spiritual leadership insists on humility. Humility is the attitude that puts others ahead of you, that considers others more important than yourself. It was said of Moses, the leader of over one million Israelites, "Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth" (Numbers 12:3). Thinking too highly of yourself prevents you from genuinely caring for others. Humility enables you to serve others wholeheartedly and thereby set an example that others will follow.

Spiritual leadership also requires integrity. People do not want to follow a person they do not respect. Speaking to servants, Ephesians 6:6-8 reads, "Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free." Further, spiritual leadership demands honesty. People are repulsed by a person they cannot trust to tell the truth. Proverbs 16:13 teaches us, "Kings take pleasure in honest lips; they value a man who speaks the truth."

Spiritual Leadership - What are the results?

Genuine spiritual leadership has powerful results! Jesus began His ministry with twelve disciples. Once He finished training them to be servant leaders, He set them loose on the world. On their first day of ministry, over 3,000 people believed the message about Jesus (Acts 2:41). A few years later it was said of the disciples, "These who have turned the world upside down have come here too" (Acts 17:6 NKJV). The results of Jesus' leadership can be seen today in the hundreds of millions of people who call themselves Christians - followers of Christ.

How can you develop spiritual leadership in your life? First, pray to God for wisdom on how you can become a spiritual leader (James 1:5). Second, ask God to change your heart and to develop the character qualities in you that are required for spiritual leadership (1 Corinthians 3:4-7; Galatians 5:22-23). Third, rely on the power of God to give you the strength you need to exhibit spiritual leadership in your life. Philippians 4:13 declares, "I can do everything through him who gives me strength."

My Challenge And Desire Is To Lead In The Strength Of The Lord!

GO LEAFS GO!

Just for my friend, Fred, in Calgary...The Flames were NOT Hot enough to Burn the Leafs tonight...GO LEAFS GO!!!

HOW SWEEP IT IS!!!

Written off by the entire baseball world only three years ago, the Tigers made it official Saturday. They're back, and on the prowl. Magglio Ordonez hit his second homer of the game, connecting for a three-run shot with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning that lifted Jim Leyland's team over the Oakland Athletics 6-3 for a startling four-game sweep of the AL championship series.

Game 16 - Argos 28 Eskimos 25

The longest run of consecutive playoff appearances in North American professional sports came to an end when the Toronto Argonauts defeated the Edmonton Eskimos 28-25 and knocked the reigning Grey Cup champions out of playoff contention Saturday. Edmonton had made it to the CFL playoffs 34 years in a row. With the win, Toronto, 10-6, moved into first place in the East Division two points ahead of Montreal.

Words of Mother Theresa

"A clean heart is a free heart. A free heart can love Christ with an undivided love in chastity, convinced that nothing and nobody will separate it from his love. Purity, chastity, and virginity created a special beauty in Mary that attracted God’s attention. He showed his great love for the world by giving Jesus to her.

There is a terrible hunger for love. We all experience that in our lives - the pain, the loneliness. We must have the courage to recognize it. The poor you may have right in your own family. Find them.Love them. Before you speak, it is necessary for you to listen, for God speaks in the silence of the heart.

Give yourself fully to God. He will use you to accomplish great things on the condition that you believe much more in His love than in your own weakness.Speak tenderly to them. Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting. Always have a cheerful smile. Don't only give your care, but give your heart as well.

The more you have, the more you are occupied, the less you give. But the less you have the more free you are. Poverty for us is a freedom. It is not mortification, a penance. It is joyful freedom. There is no television here, no this, no that. But we are perfectly happy.

I pray that you will understand the words of Jesus, “Love one another as I have loved you.” Ask yourself “How has he loved me? Do I really love others in the same way?” Unless this love is among us, we can kill ourselves with work and it will only be work, not love. Work without love is slavery.

Little things are indeed little, but to be faithful in little things is a great thing.

A sacrifice to be real must cost, must hurt, must empty ourselves. The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit of prayer is faith, the fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service, the fruit of service is peace."

--Mother Teresa

A PRAYER TO BE HOLY

Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy
Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work too may be holy
Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy
Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy
Guide me then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy.

Game 15 - Argos 28 Eskimos 23

Monday, Ricky Williams and John Avery proved two heads are indeed better than one.
Williams and Avery combined for 137 yards rushing in their first game together as the Toronto Argonauts withstood a 189-yard rushing performance by Edmonton's Troy Davis to beat the Eskimos 28-23 on Monday and cement a CFL playoff berth.

Williams and Avery both spent time playing tailback with Toronto, but injuries prevented them from sharing the same backfield before Monday. The five-foot-10, 220-pound Williams lined up at fullback and rushed for 71 yards on seven carries while the five-foot-11, 185-pound Avery added 66 yards on 11 carries at tailback. But more importantly, Edmonton had to respect the run which in turn left Argos receivers in one-on-one coverage downfield.

That was especially evident in the first half when Argos quarterback Damon Allen brought the Rogers Centre gathering of 26,891 to its feet with touchdown strikes of 23 and 14 yards to Arland Bruce III in staking Toronto to a 25-9 half-time lead.

Baseball World

According to word on the Street my friend DH is in mourning! His LA Dodgers were eliminated from the Baseball Playoffs by the New York Mets from Shea Stadium.....

Well, my friend, stop mourning and start cheering for the Mets! I predict they will be in the World Series with The Detroit Tigers!!!

It should be a great World Series if these two teams are in it.

That's it from Baseball Land for now.

THE 23RD CHANNEL

The T.V. is my shepherd.
My spiritual growth shall want.

It maketh me to sit down and do nothing for his name's sake,

Because it requireth all my spare time.

It keepeth me from doing my duty as a Christian,

Because it presenteth me so many good shows that I must see.

It restoreth my knowledge of the things of the world,

And keepeth me from the study of God's word.

It leadeth me in paths of not attending the worship service,

And doing nothing in the Kingdom of God.

Yea, though I live to be a hundred,

I shall keep on viewing my T.V.

As long as it will work,

For it is my closest companion.

Its sound and its picture,

They comfort me.

It presenteth entertainment before me,

And keepeth me from doing important things with my family.

It fills my head with ideas,

Which differ from those set forth in the word of God.

Surely no good thing will come of my life,
Because my T.V. offereth me no good time to do the will of God;

Thus I will dwell in the place of the devil and his angels
Forever.

METS 2 WINS DODGERS 0 WINS!!!

Thanks to a stellar performance by steady Tom Glavine, the otherwise pitching-depleted New York Mets are on the cusp of a first-round sweep.

The Mets are in the driver's seat!

Go Mets Go!!!

MAPLE LEAFS - 1 & 1

Well, my internet has been down for a couple of days.

The leafs are off to a very start.

Kilger and Darcy Tucker each scored a pair of goals tonight and Andrew Raycroft stopped 34 shots to earn the shutout as the Toronto Maple Leafs exacted a measure of revenge for an opening-night loss with a 6-0 victory over the Ottawa Senators.

In the return match of the teams' home-and-home series to kick off the new NHL season, the Leafs embarrassed the Senators before a sellout crowd of 19,237 at Scotiabank Place.

They scored early and often on Ottawa goaltender Martin Gerber, who struggled in his home debut and was pulled in favour of Ray Emery after allowing five goals on 24 shots through the first two periods.

At the other end, Raycroft responded from the opening-night defeat with a solid performance to earn his first shutout in a Maple Leafs uniform and the fourth of his career.

Game 14 - Argos 23 Stamps 16

Eric England believes the Toronto Argonauts proved Saturday night they can play with the CFL's elite teams.
England and Ricky Williams scored second-half touchdowns as the Argos hung on for a tense 23-16 home win over the Calgary Stampeders before a season-high Rogers Centre gathering of 32,410 spectators. The victory was redemption for Toronto, which lost a 39-18 road decision to the Stamps last weekend.

''They are one of the better teams,'' England said of the Stampeders. ''I think it does say we can handle anybody, we can play with anybody and people have to watch out for us now.

''You always want to play good at home and do what it takes to win at home. You want to secure your home and we did that.''

Toronto (8-6) moved into a first-place tie with Montreal (8-6) atop the East Division standings with its third straight home victory overall and sixth straight win over Calgary at Rogers Centre.

The Stampeders (9-6) fell to second in the West Division behind the B.C. Lions (10-4), who beat Hamilton 28-8 earlier Saturday.
