PSALM 8

1.O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?
5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet:
7 all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.
9 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

GAME 10 - ARGOS 18 BOMBERS 15

Damon Allen tossed two fourth quarter touchdowns and Winnipeg threw two late interceptions as the Toronto Argonauts beat the Blue Bombers 18-15 Friday night.

Toronto improves to 5-5 and climbs into a second-place tie with the Bombers in the CFL East.

Winnipeg was leading 15-3 entering the fourth quarter when Allen hit R.J. Soward and Arland Bruce III with touchdown passes.

THE ROTARY - 4 WAY TEST

From the earliest days of the organization, Rotarians were concerned with promoting high ethical standards in their professional lives. One of the world's most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics is The Four-Way Test, which was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor (who later served as RI president) when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy.

This 24-word test for employees to follow in their business and professional lives became the guide for sales, production, advertising, and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company is credited to this simple philosophy. Adopted by Rotary in 1943, The Four-Way Test has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways. It asks the following four questions:

"Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"

Perhaps, as Christians we could adopt this 4 Way Test!

What if we, the people of God, followed this in our relationships with one another?

Good food for thought, I think!

WHY GO TO CHURCH???

A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday.

"I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."

This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time, my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this.

"They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work.

If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today.

"Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"

A BUSY WEEKEND!

Lorraine and I went to Rockland (Near Ottawa) on Friday to visit her sister & family. We spent most of Saturday with them and then headed to Pembroke to meet our friends from Toronto who were setting their daughter up in an apartment.

We had our van filled with some of her belongings. Unloaded and spent the night with the Corps Officers (Pastors) of The Salvation Army Community Church.

We headed for home this afternoon, and for any of you that have been on the 401 when traffic is bumper to bumper....the rest of the story is history.

Unfortunately, I cannot provide pictures because my blog will not upload them.....Any suggestions....Help!!!

GAME 9 - ARGOS 31 ALOUETTES 6

He already owns most of the CFL's passing records and is the only quarterback in league history to rush for more than 10,000 career yards.

On Saturday night, Damon Allen achieved yet another amazing milestone in his illustrious career.

Allen became just the second player to amass 70,000 career passing yards and also threw a crucial touchdown pass to lead the Toronto Argonauts to a stunning 31-6 home win over the Montreal Alouettes before a season-high Rogers Centre gathering of 30,786.

Allen, 43, completed 10-of-19 passes for 200 yards to boost his career total to 70,112 yards, leaving him just 442 short of breaking CFL star Warren Moon's mark of 70,553 yards and becoming the most prolific passer in pro football history.

In typical fashion, Allen downplayed the significance of his accomplishment, saying he was happier to see the Argos get a much-needed win than joining Moon in the exclusive 70,000-yard passing club

CLINGING TO GOD IN SOLITUDE

When we enter into solitude to be with God alone, we quickly discover how dependent we are. Without the many distractions of our daily lives, we feel anxious and tense. When nobody speaks to us, calls on us, or needs our help, we start feeling like nobodies. Then we begin wondering whether we are useful, valuable, and significant. Our tendency is to leave this fearful solitude quickly and get busy again to reassure ourselves that we are "somebodies." But that is a temptation, because what makes us somebodies is not other people's responses to us but God's eternal love for us.

To claim the truth of ourselves we have to cling to our God in solitude as to the One who makes us who we are.

TIME FOR A LAUGH!!!

A leopard entered the Olympics every four years and always won the gold medal in the long jump. He got tired of this and at the next games decided try the high jump and javelin. He did very poorly in both, thus proving that a leopard can’t change his sports.

GAME 8 - ARGOS 20 TIGER CATS 2

A different offensive philosophy and approach paid off nicely Saturday night for Damon Allen and the Toronto Argonauts.

Allen completed 21-of-33 passes for 319 yards and a touchdown to lead Toronto to a 20-2 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before a frustrated Ivor Wynne Stadium gathering of 29,010.

Toronto accumulated 430 total yards a week after failing to pass midfield in a 31-7 loss to Montreal. That cost offensive co-ordinator Kent Austin his job as GM Adam Rita came to help head coach Mike (Pinball) Clemons and receivers coach Paul LaPolice fix the unit.

PRAYER FOR THE NATIONS: AN APPEAL BY THE GENERAL OF THE SALVATION ARMY

Our hearts fill with anguish and grief on hearing the news reports of events in the Middle East in recent weeks. I am appealing to all Salvationists to turn to God in prayer for the peoples of the nations involved.

The politics of it all is immensely complex, yet the human suffering and the devastation caused by violent actions are visible for all to see and comprehend. It is the suffering of the innocent that moves us deeply. It is the killing and maiming of the children, with the terror-filled faces of parents, that cause us to cry out.

Though we are powerless to impact the political factors, we are not powerless through prayer. The Holy Scriptures tell us that prayer is a powerful weapon for good in the face of evil. Let us therefore come to God as a global Salvation Army to implore Him to bring a cessation to the violence and relief to the suffering of both sides.

Let us plead with God in the sacred Name of Jesus, Prince of Peace, that the leaders of Israel, of the Lebanon, of the Hezbollah, will repent and seek the will of God for a peaceful solution.

Let us also bring to God the United Nations and the leaders of those other nations holding strong influence over the warring parties. They can, if they find the political will for it, be brokers for peace and a new stability.

Please pray too for me and for my colleagues at International Headquarters as we seek to determine what role The Salvation Army might play in bringing help to the victims. Other agencies doing such work also need our prayers.

My appeal is to the world-wide Salvation Army to be in prayer until the warring ends, as we focus on the needs of the peoples of the Middle East.

God bless you all.

(International Leader - The Salvation Army)

HIDDENNESS, A PLACE OF INTIMACY

"Hiddenness is an essential quality of the spiritual life. Solitude, silence, quiet, ordinary tasks, being with people without great agendas, sleeping, eating, working, playing -- all of that without being different from others, that is the life that Jesus lived and the life he asks us to live. It is in hiddenness that we, like Jesus, can increase "in wisdom, in stature, and in favour with God and with people" (Luke 2:51). It is in hiddenness that we can find a true intimacy with God and a true love for people.

Even during his active ministry, Jesus continued to return to hidden places to be with God alone. If we don't have a hidden life with God, our public life for God cannot bear fruit." -

There was lots of food (BBQ Salmon, Moose Stew, Fish & Brews, Turkey, Lasagna, Salads, Many Desserts). Lately it seems that we are enjoying lots of fellowship, friends, food, & fun.

Game 7 - Argos 7 Alouettes 31

Robert Edwards ran in two touchdowns and Damon Duval kicked five field goals as the undefeated Montreal Alouettes posted a workmanlike 31-7 victory over the injury-wracked Toronto Argonauts on Thursday night.

The Alouettes improved to 7-0 for the first time since 2002, the last year they won the Grey Cup. Toronto lost its second game in a row and dropped to 2-5. Edwards carried 17 times for 138 yards and improved his league-leading TD total to 10 for the season.

Toronto avoided being shut out when cornerback Kahlil Carter picked off a pass by back-up quarterback Nealon Greene and ran it 84 yards for a touchdown with 2:42 left to play.

With Damon Allen nursing a sore finger, back-up Spergon Wynn got the start for Toronto and had a miserable first three quarters, never advancing the ball past the Argo's own 51.

Eric Crouch took over in the fourth and he also struggled.

The Argos were missing their top three running backs - Ricky Williams, John Avery and Jeff Johnson - to injuries and Canadian John Williams got the start.

FRIENDS FROM THE WEST!

Today, Lorraine & I were privileged to see some friends from the West.

We had lunch with Ed from Calgary and dinner with Glen & Bonnie from Vancouver.

It was great to get together with these friends and enjoy fellowship, food, and fun!

Why do we need friends?

People seem to have a natural need for friends and with good reason. Friends increase your enjoyment of life and relieve feelings of loneliness. They even can help reduce stress and improve your health. Having good friends is especially helpful when you are going through any kind of hard time: experiencing anxiety or panic attacks, depression, phobias or delusional thinking; living with a serious illness or disability; having major surgery; having a loss in your life; or just being under a lot of stress. At times like these, good friends can make all the difference.

When you are with good friends you feel good about yourself, and you are glad to be with them. A friend is someone who -

  • you like, respect, and trust, and who likes, respects and trusts you
  • doesn't always understand you, but accepts and likes you as you are, even as you grow and change
  • allows you the space to change, grow, make decisions, and even make mistakes
  • listens to you and share with you, both the good times and the bad times
  • respects your need for confidentiality so you can tell them anything
  • lets you freely express your feelings and emotions without judging, teasing, or criticizing
  • gives you good advice when you want and ask for it, assists you in taking action that will help you feel better, and works with you in difficult situations to figure out what to do next
  • lets you help them when they need it
  • you want to be with, but you aren't obsessed about being with
  • doesn't ever take advantage of you

We All Need friends, And We All Need To Be A Friend!
